Summer Reading is Like Going to Hell in a Handbasket

I was looking at my old xanga posts to see if there was anything I wrote that was worth sharing on my current blog. Most of my friends have left xanga. So, you know what they say; "if you can't beat them, join them".

That's when I found this little piece of work. I know it is ironic that I am posting it in the winter and it occured and was written about during the summer. Oh well, normalacy has never really been my policy.

My mom never approved of me staying home alone much when I have summer reading. She thinks that I will be easily distracted. (While it is true that shiny objects on the sidewalk my hold my attention from time to time, I can assure you that she is deeply misguided about my work ethic.) So, she occasionally makes me tag along when she goes to work. And when I do homework, she tries to find a quiet place for me to study . . .

Keep in mind that she works for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Therefore, the place she has me study is none other than the room where her close friend works . . . the one who teaches cpr, lifting, first aid, ect.

And what does this woman use to teach? GIGANTIC DUMMIES & MANIQINS! This woman as an almost disdurbing collection of um...friends. (I can't help but wonder if she is some creeper who talks to them...)

So, here I am trying to study in a cramped room with fake human bodies EVERWHERE. They were HUGE . . . taller than me of course (supposed to be as close as possible to to the "average" adult body. I hate them all). And, to make matters worse, each one was staring at me with their disproportionate rubber eye balls! (Yeah, that lady MUST be a creeper)

It doesn't help that the summer English class that I am taking has a lot of disturbing stories. There is one where this girl's father dies. Not wanting to let go, she keeps his rotting body in the closet. Later, when her husband says he is going away for a few days, she kills him with rat poison and leaves the decomposing body in her bed until the day she dies!

And yes, I am reading this dysfunctional story while sitting in a dysfunctional room with dysfunctional mangled rubber limbs and decapitated rubber heads.

(I also had to read Fall of the House of Usher while I was trapped in there. It was disturbing.)
